Prejudice related bullying is often based on irrational views, fears and beliefs which lead to the dislike and hatred of different individuals and groups such as the following:
Homophobic bullying
Based on research, a high percentage of lesbian and gay students have been subjected to and are currently experiencing homophobic bullying in schools, and colleges which continues into the workplace.
Racist bullying
Individuals are often the target of racist bullying, due to their skin colour, ethnic or national origin. This occurs in schools, colleges as well as in the workplace, community and public settings.
Body Image bullying
Obesity and size are one of the more prevalent forms of prejudice related bullying and can have a long-term damaging impact on the individual which in turn can further generate health problems, both psychological and physical. The media’s focus on body size and image plays a huge part in fuelling discrimination and body image bullying.
Faith/religious bullying
Individuals and groups are often targeted because of their religious belief or affiliation and may also include bullying behaviour against individuals who are not religiously affiliated.
Ageist bullying
Bullying targeting individuals based on their age can often result in the exclusion from networks, and social groups.
